Chilli Powder on the Greens – and Michelin-Level Dining on the Plate
Most people picture Tuscany as Chianti and packed piazzas in August. The Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort belongs to a different, quieter, wilder Tuscany – the Maremma, as it looked before it became famous, now with Italy's only PGA-licensed golf course.
Dear readers,
When most people think of Tuscany, they think of Chianti. Of cypress trees, vineyards, piazzas packed full in August. The Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort lies in a different Tuscany. Quieter. Wilder. Further out. The Maremma is what Tuscany looked like before it became famous. And with Italy’s only PGA-licensed golf course, this landscape suddenly gets a genuine exclamation mark on the golfing side, too.
Happy discovering.
The NineteenGolf.Guide Team
The Argentario has been part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection since April 2023 – making it Italy’s first five-star resort in the group’s exclusive golf portfolio. Interior designer Andrea Fogli has given the rooms a consistent signature: monochrome design, animal art reflecting owner Augusto Orsini’s commitment to conservation, and now – as part of an ongoing restyling – softer, earthy tones, plants and homely fabrics. The Maremma is moving indoors.
73 Rooms, 7 Suites and 5 Villas – All Facing the Same Direction.
Every room, every suite and every villa looks out onto the golf course, the landscape of Monte Argentario or the Orbetello lagoon. That’s no coincidence – it’s a decision. Individually designed, fitted with the latest technology, and with one detail you won’t forget: vast freestanding bathtubs as the centrepiece of the bedroom. That, really, says everything about this house’s outlook – and about how you’ll sleep here.
For those who want to stay for good: 22 luxury villas sit on the surrounding hills, each with a view of the golf course, each designed bespoke by Andrea Fogli.
Four plots are still available – starting at around 3 million euros. For everyone else: renting works too.
Dama Dama – Fresh to the Gambero Rosso, Fresh to the Plate
This year, Dama Dama was included in the Gambero Rosso – Italy’s most renowned restaurant guide. An honour that simply cannot be bought.
Head chef Emiliano Lombardelli cooks the way the Maremma tastes: regional, seasonal, no detours. The olive oil comes from the resort’s own grove, the honey from the village beekeeper, whose hives stand on the golf course. It all arrives on the table as fettunta – toasted bread with the oil poured straight over it. That’s how an evening here begins.
Afterwards: a cocktail at the Dragonfly Bar. Retro setting, an enormous white lampshade, a round sofa, and views over the floodlit course. Innovative aperitivi that taste better than their names let on.
Offers Between Fairway, Spa and Dolce Vita
At the Argentario, you’re not simply booking a room – you’re booking exactly the escape that suits you. Our tip for summer: Golfin’ Tuscany. Green fees included, the Maremma as your backdrop, an evening at Dama Dama. You won’t need more than that. More packages – from Spa for 2 to Half Board – are here:
PGA National Italy – Playable 360 Days a Year
In 2026, the Argentario Golf Club celebrates its 20th anniversary. Italy’s only PGA National Golf Course is generously laid out, varied to play, and shaped by cork oaks, olive trees and sea views. Thanks to the mild microclimate, it can be played almost all year round. The fact that the DP World Tour’s Italian Open was held here in June 2025 underlines the sporting ambition. The resort takes its own path on sustainability, too: instead of pesticides, the greens are treated with chilli powder – entirely in the spirit of ‘naturally imperfect’.
And for anyone who wants to play more than just one course: the Argentario belongs to the Maremma Golf District – a group of four 18-hole courses in the region. Alongside the Argentario, these include Terme di Saturnia, Golf Club Toscana and Punta Ala.
What Awaits You – Beyond the 18th Green
The Maremma is more than just a backdrop. Venture beyond the resort and you’ll find: e-bike tours through olive groves and vineyards, boat trips around the Monte Argentario peninsula, wine tastings with Morellino wines, the medieval town of Pitigliano, known as Tuscany’s ‘little Jerusalem’, and olive oil tastings that explain why this oil tastes like nothing else. Prefer to stay on the grounds? The jogging path through the golf course at sunrise is an experience in itself. And so is the spa afterwards.
Spend a Day Relaxing at the Espace Spa
2,700 square metres of wellness: an indoor pool with golf-course views, a bio sauna, a Turkish bath, treatment rooms. Or high-tech longevity treatments. Or, quite simply: a massage that does exactly what it should after a long round.
Taste the Morellino Wines
The winemakers of the southern Maremma know exactly what a hot climate does to Sangiovese: matured, characterful, deep. An evening at one of the wine estates around Grosseto stays with you.
Enjoy an Olive Oil Tasting
Over 4,000 olive trees frame the golf course. The resort’s own organic olive oil is genuine Tuscan gold – best enjoyed on the clubhouse’s panoramic terrace at sunset.
